hi everybody im new to this site and this is to show the progress of my puma as i upgrade and alter things, i bought the car for £900 which isnt to bad if i dont say so myself

Soon after a problem arissed where it would start over heating :( but for some reason a quick blip of the throttle dropped it down to normal, my first thought was thermastat and water pump. when i looked further into the cars history i found that there was a bill for the water pump being changed at the same time that the cambelt was done so that left me thinking faulty therastat!!! i changed it and as the pics show below it was only opening half as much as it should and also about 7 deg later leaving me to believe this could be the problem.

The thermostate change has not sorted the problem tho so next time i get paid im goin to order a heater contol valve as the 1 on mine seems to be faulty and the heater is never as hot as i should be, also in looking into my problem further this seems to be the most likely reason why the temp is so wild as it is  i dont know the reason for this but i have been researching for a couple of weeks and every time points to this part being faulty

the wishbones, drop links and arb bushes need changing so there also getting bought when i next get paid and im getting them painted red at work so they dont go rusty like most parts once the crappy paint comes off ;) will upload pics when done,

well the bonnet is sat on 15mm bonnet lifters that i made, i wasnt sure at first but now i like them it also has gas struts instaed of the bonnet stay ;) the problem i found with the overheating is that the hcv was faulty, once i had bought 1 from ford it took me 10 mins to fit and i havent had the problem since.

after spending an hour clearing the snow from around my car i thought i would take the

exhaust off, but! the exhaust is all in one piece and i havent got my grinder with me. so i

dropped the rear suspension along with the rear beam and twisted and turned it until i got

the hole lot over the beam and out from under the car, the cat was still attached and it was

difficult and after alot of craped nuckles and swearing i got it out and it was nackerd, i took

some pics of the hole thing and of the old and new exhaust to show the differences. enjoy

the progress pics ive taken :bleh:

The exhaust is well and trully naughty word if im honnest but i didnt haft sound meaty when you

was spanking it up and down throught the rev range poping and farting at like 80-90mph so

i didnt change if for that reason even though ive had the replacement sections for over 12

months now hahahaha :roflmao:

i took some pics of the backend, and soon il be stripping it, cleaning it, getting rid of any

untanted brackets like the spare wheel mounts and undersealing and painting it like i have

with the frond of the car underneath.

let me know what you think so far to say i have about 30-50 quid a month to spend in the

good old puma

much love people kieran

I believe with the budget you have in mine steady progress can be achieve to have a very sorted ,enjoyable and reliable car. Make your purchases wisely and get genuine or uprated genuine Ford(FRP) parts where possible and believe me you will be very happy. And oh yeah leave the MR2 spoilers to the chavs... lol Good luck with your Puma.

Cleaning, your time and effort cost you nothing and will show in your work. I am building a 1700 for my bro inlaw just now and is in a similar position to yourself. He is restricted money wise so we are just biding our time collect parts as we can aquire them and doing the job right. Rebuilding and refurbing old parts sourcing genuine new parts. Good luck with transplant.
