I recently bought a Puma Black from a Ford dealer which is laaaarvely fank you for asking, but the stereo sounds cobblers. I had a Fiesta before this with a 5000 and that sounded much better

It's the standard 6000 I've got but looking at the panels, I reckon someone has changed the speakers and put uber-rubbish speakers in. I thought the audio spec on the Puma was one of Ford's selling points for a factory unit - I know its not top end or anything but I'm surprised someone would take out the speakers.

So my questions, people are:

 Am I right about the reasonable factory spec of the 6000?
 Do you think it likely that someone would put worse ones in?
 Was the spec on the Puma Black ICE the same as other Puma's?
 I've read on here people talking about 'platinum packs' and other such phrases - are they referring to the standard Ford ICE systems?

thanks you lot

ps

Thanks for all the fab advice on this board about fitting speakers from the likes of the Matts, Lee and Glyn - I've read all the useful opinions and pics and just bought Infinity Reference 6.5's to replace the fronts and Infinty 9603i 6x9s in the rear.

Also got the extortionate Dynamat stuff (cheers for the advice Ian S, Dangersport) which I hope will prove worth the money.

I'm sure I should be doing some work...

Paul

biggrin.gif Yeah, it shouldnt sound that bad !

 Do you think it likely that someone would put worse ones in?

biggrin.gif I must admit i doubt it

biggrin.gif Yep

biggrin.gif The platinum pach consisted of an extra amp, and a sub, you couldnt have this and the "Lux" pack from new(not enough fuses) so I doubt if any "Blacks" have the platinum pack, but i could be wrong here ja_stupid.gif

is it, don't think it is, can't check my brochure right now, but I do think the Puma Black had the uprated set-up.. I thought it came with the CD changer. :?:

maybe the previous owner had replaced the standard ford speakers with aftermarket ones, and threw away the ford ones... and then when it came to selling it... he/she took out the good ones and just put in any old speaker...

The standard Puma speakers are nothing to write home about. Maybe they are the same ones and you were expecting something a bit more exotic?

I've only kept mine in the rear because I cant be arsed to pull the back out to replace them, plus they are only meant to be there to give a bit of rear fill to the soundstage.
]I'm quite the easy-going type, once you get to know me. Running with - Unichip/Kent Cams/K&N filter/Magnex Cat-Back/Magnecor leads/NGK plugs/Polybushes and Strutbrace. 156bhp last time I tried.

All I can comare it to is that I think the speakers in my Puma are better than the one's in the Mondeo, but this could be to do with the size of the cars?

Think my 1.7 has the "Platinum pack" it has an extra amp in the boot, just under the locking mechanism but I can't find the extra sub - anyone know where this should be so I can check ???

thank

the rear quarter panels will each have an extra speaker slot, giving 2 each side and not the standard one.
