Just thought I would start my posting on this forum with news of a Pacific Green Puma Project. My wife and I bought a 2001 Puma in Feb 09. As a long time fan of the Puma (Since release in 1997), this is my first (she wouldnt let me buy her a FRP!!!).

Anyway at the time I said eventually I would work on the car, ensure it is fully serviced, all points from the MOT completed, timing belt change and then a full valet including any touch ups required.

Well this is what I have done so far:

  • Full service - Used Castrol Magantec Oil, K&N Panel filter fitted, NGK Three prong Spark plugs and some Injector cleaner.
  • New exhaust fitted.
  • New Brakes - EBC Green stuff pads with Drilled and Grooved Discs, Calipers overhauled and painted red, New shoes (and due to not following the Ford TIS properly), new ABS sensor on the rear.
  • MAF and ICV cleaned.
  • New quarter panel badges.
  • New wheel centres fitted.
  • New console badge.
  • Engine Bay fully cleaned and painted Pacific Green where it used to be black.
  • Engine Cover painted Pacific Green. (Just have to paint the logos!!)
  • Car gutted.
  • Clay Barred the paintwork.
  • Rubbing Compound rubbed into paintwork.
  • 1200cm Puma Sticker in Matt Black stuck to both doors.
  • Jet washed Car matts (brought them back to Grey and Silver Logo!!)

My intention is to get her back into showroom condition (or as near as possible) on a small budget. There is still loads to do and I will add some pictures when I have got a bit further on, but she is looking good already. Any tips on cheap mods would be appreciated.

Sounds good. Good luck with it. Did you get the badges from ford? Did they cost much?

Chris.
Since my first car I have always looked to own cars that would be great to drive, but on a reasonable budget. These are the cars that I have owned over the years, from my first to present:
1. Mk1 Fiesta 1300S | 2. Mk1 Fiesta XR2 | 3. Puma 1.7 in Melina Blue | 4. Mk2 Toyota MR2 GT | 5. Mk3 Cortina 1600L | 6. Honda CRX ESi | 7. Ford Sportka | 8. Honda Civic VTi -S | 9. Toyota Yaris 1.8 SR | 10. Honda Civic 1.8 SE i-vTEC | 11. Puma 1.7 in Moondust Silver

Finish painting the engine cover (detail painting the lettering, then timing and aux belt change, coolant flush and new water pump and finally on the mechanical side new powerflex rear bushes. Have already spent nearly £700 on her, so these will be the last jobs for a while.....should keep her going for another few thousand miles and now she has been nicely valeted including some dodo juice wax feels like its nearly there...

Then its the turn of my 05 Mondeo ST TDCI....

Touched up the engine cover today:

Also polished the gearknob as per this link:

http://www.pumapeopl...ob&fromsearch=1

but as I dont have a vertical drill I did it by hand using different grades of sandpaper up to 2500 grit, then metal polish. The results are the same but much slower.....

Have also started work on the pitted headlights, got them to a dull shine, just waiting for my Plastx to arrive to finish them off......Bodywork just needs some touch up brush painting (stone chips and deep scratches), but thats for next week.
