well as I am able to speak chinese, I managed to get in contact with a very cheap source for the Halo rings (£3 per pair). Just wondering what colour would be nice for the front tongue.gif

was thinking violet/purple smile.gif

this is an overkill i think:

Well as the other colours are all illegal to display on the front of your car I would say white. Unless you want to get pulled over a lot.

£3 quid is bloody good, ive done the front ones aswell and every one loves em, but now seeing the red rings i feel a brake light mod coming alond very soon. I would stick with the white ones to avoid the boys in blue but with a switch fitted the world is your oyster try something different, maybe the red ones up front to show your anger when being cut up but a A-hole driver. biggrin.gif

the brake light mod could be quiet good if done right and they are still legal. instead of having a 2 filament bulb just have one then for brake lights set it up for the ring. dont know if it would work and cant be bothered to try as had to much agro making the rear lights clear.

Those rings won't be bright enough as brake lights, even if they are the right colour.
Might be OK as running lights but still too dim for my liking.

I will try and upload some close up pics if mine, i wish i could take a night time shot as these shine brighter than the actual Halo rings on BMWs.

Taken in the day.

If the red halos are anything like the white ones i have than these should be more than bright enough, if not they would be ok as normal rear lights but use the bulb to illuminate when the brake pedal is pressed.

the reds (and any other colour for that matter) are as bright as the whites. I think the red halos should be the tail light and the filament should be the brake lights. reason being

1) the halo rings are neons and need time to "build up" the brightness but filaments light up instantly.

2) I think most cars have a ring as tail and the middle of the ring as a indicator or a brake light (might be something to do with human perception, not sure what is it called)

Nice pics smile.gif and a few questions tongue.gif whats that small circular hole in front for?? em and how to you mount the rings?? on the plastic lens?? or on the lights?? exprienced any problems so far??

Just a quick query about those rings. Are they neon or cold cathode? not sure if there is any technical difference or the same thing under a different name, but I've had a bit of experience with cold cathode tubes and PC modding.

The slight issue which I would be worried about, if they are cold cathodes is the change of colour (or colour fade) over their life.

I know a couple of mates who have tried using red cold cathodes and they have ended up fading to pink over a period of months. laugh.gif

I don't think it was a major problem with the brightness, more the colour fading from one to another (i.e. red to pink). I think the white ones would be OK TBH
