Hi guys

thanks for the replies..

Looks like I am more or less on my own then... its a very very real project.

I am extremely surprised it hasn't been done before.

I was originally gonna do a MK2 escort but its been done a million times and finding a rot free good shell is a joke... where as for less money I can get a puma and strip it.

Been chatting to a few people and they reckon a WRC style set up for the rear is the way to go and I have some pictures to go on and an invite to look at a RWD WRC escort cossie so I can see how its done and where all the pic ups etc are. Also get some better pictures for my guy to go off.

The rest is relitivly simple after that- only issues being time, money and the general putting it together.

Look out for pics coming soon.

Jake

Why not do what Ford did and more or less get a Puma shell, cut the floorpan off and weld in a Sierra Cossie one (3 door or 4 door Sapphire RWD).

Then all the suspension pickup points will already be in place, as will the mountings for all the mechanical and electrical gubbins.

Remember the Puma floorpan is for transverse engined, you will have your work cut out adapting the existing floorpan to take a longitudanal engine, box and prop.

Good luck...has to be said it will be a money pit project but if you want to do it fair enough...would be worth costing up the project first and see if you're not better off just buying a used 911 or something...

What a Puma should look like good.gif
No problem with lighting on this one...

Well main reason is this is a very big and time consuming job and making a WRC type cradle for the diff is relativly easy especially with the back end stripped off the puma. Its a case of finding the middle of the car and middle of the wheel arches for diff placement- deciding on the design for the cradle and then making some solid mounting points for it and bolting it on. The rest bolts around it.

Also cossie rear beam set ups are pooE at best - heavey, crap geometry etc etc.

I have been doing a lot of investigation and it seems this is the way to go if you want the best of all worlds, however I agree this is the way to go for 4wd due to there being a front cradle etc.

The diff tunnel and front of the bulk head can be cut from the Saph shell and once I have worked out where the engine will sit can be welded in- similar to what you said here as I would cut out the mounts for the gearbox then.

All that needs then is the engine bolting in, gearbox bolting in and a prop made up.

did you buy the Pumaspeed Puma?

looks good cool.gif any more details on your project please?

The FWD is the only thing that stops my FRP being the ultimate car for me.

I am sure Severn Motorsport used to make 300bhp Kas and Pumas but they were both 4wd.

Sounds like fun but you will probably be cheaper buying a new Cayman! wink.gif

IIRC Severn Valley Motorsport never made any 4wd puma's - I'd take any power figures from SVM with a truck load of salt...

Nice to see a pukka RWD puma built - are you planning in competing in it (MSA rule K27 rears its ugly head) or track days only ?

Hmmm that car has potential cool.gif
I hope it stays plain white...

Don't like the ST badges though, has no place on any Puma IMHO...because it isn't an ST any more than it's a BMW dry.gif
