Hi,

Just wondering if anybody could provide some assistance as the clio forums don't seem to be the most helpful of places!

The girlfriends got a 172 cup (no ABS etc) and a couple of times now when parking at low speed the brakes have failed on her. both times she's said they've been fine again almost instantly (they're stupidly good most of the time - stops so much quicker than my Puma even with my ST calipers, mintex pads and red-dot discs). She's said that the peddle has felt like normal both times as well so I'm guessing fluid etc is ok (I would go and check but she's in norwich until tomorrow) and would have thought most things would cause a general lack of stopping power and not just the occasional one-off fail.

Any help is muchly appreciated as always.

The brakes are VERY over servo'd on the clio... my Wife Kathryn has one.... they are very responsive on a first and second touch....

Sounds like the servo to me...

Renault parts are shocking quality i'm afraid.... i did some work on Kathryns car over Christmas, there's just sooo much to be done... the gearstick had a mind of it's own.... the lower gearbox mount (Dogbone) is really very basic in design.... also the top engine mount was hilariously knackered to the point where you could just wobble the engine around with one hand.... have replaced both parts...it drives much better, but there is still movment in the gearstick...Crazy!

Have fun

As long as it's better than the MG it replaces!

The cars going for a cambelt and service next week so will get it checked over then. Seems ok in general driving, just seems to be a wall magnet when parking.

Do quite like the little french car though, got a bit of a kick to it and it's a nice change to be able to see all around, feels like driving a greenhouse!

At least being a cup theres no air-con, ABS, fewer airbags etc - much less to go wrong!
