The Puma is leaving puddles of gearbox oil everywhere. I have just had the clutch replaced so hoping that it is only the gearbox breather the wrong way round or that the mechanic has over filled the gearbox when he changed the oil. There is an awful lot of oil - could it be anything more serious ?

Check your Driveshaft seals. I had to replace mine a few months after changing my clutch.

As you have said make sure breather is pointing forward(the direction cars drives) or it will dribble onto top of box and run down the sides.

Let us know how you get on.

Cheers

Thanks for the suggestions.
Hopefully it was the two classic errors. The breather was pointing to the engine and the mechanic had filled the gearbox up to the filler hole. Now corrected and oil cleaned off. Will keep an eye on it for a week or so just to make sure that the problem is solved.

Sounds like your problems sorted.

All the best.

There is a picture in the gallery. Under engine.
Gearbox should not be filled right up to the hole, it should have I think from memory a level 5-10mm below that filler hole.

searching is fruitful | I'm a sponge not a mechanic | please do try that if stuck with a Puma problem whilst waiting for a reply | For the Puma fan this read 'The Inside Story Book' is very nice to own sometimes still seen for sale

Gearbox takes 2.8L

I was always told to fill until it comes out of the filler hole

NO !! Not in the Puma - fill to just below the hole. I believe my mechanic used the short end of an Allen Key in the hole to judge the level. After he changed the breather to the correct position, with the arrow pointing to the front of the car, and adjusted the gearbox oil level we have had no further problem.
