Hi All

Very sad to say that after 94000 miles FRP #191 has died :( And now not sure whether to sell or put a 2ltr duratec in, but am putting it out to offers.

Allan Ford in Bath said - "lots of tapping/knocking noise from top and bottom of engine. ideally needs engine replaced."

Brakes all round only replaced 14k miles ago. Good tread on all 4 Toyo tyres.

Front and middle exhaust replaced a couple of years ago.

Paintwork, usual rust on door sills and stone chipping. Paint flacking a bit on fuel cap and there's a slight crack at the top of the front bumper, looks repairable.

As I said, I am open to offers and happy to answer all questions. The car is in Bath and obviously doesn't drive.

Cheers
Kevin

Most recent picture I have from Christmas.

I'm out the country this week, but will be able to get some more detailed pictures on Friday if anyone needs.

You can make a lot of money splitting it.

Price for calipers?

Hi Gally

It was a thought that had crossed my mind, just seems a shame to take another FRP off the road!

No idea on price and no idea on the quality - I had the discs and pads changed 14k ago, but the callipers were simply cleaned up.

OK, I'll start a list of parts and people, and if it comes to it, then I'll work out prices and send out PM's. So if anyone else is interested in parts, then let me know.

Thanks
Kevin

Why not just put a standard 1.7 Puma engine from the scrap yard?
With the inlet and the FRP ecu, it will still go well.
The cams are the only thing internally in the engine that are different.

I'm not far from you and Know Devizes reclamation have at least Two 1.7 Puma's there breaking.
I was there last week picking up some bits for my car.

Hi Graham

Have been thinking of that also, and half the reason for opening it to offers, as I know that someone can take it on as a project, I just don't have the time at the moment.

Did you want to make yourself another FRP?

It's actually something me and my dad could take on quite easily.

Surely a 1.7 engine and swap over all the FRP parts would be easy enough?

Am I very wrong?

That is what I have been told. And I have seen a number of second hand 1.7 Zetecs on ebay for 500ish. I just don't have the skills or time to do this myself.

Sad to read it is broke :(

Dare I ask, did it ever get real low on oil, as sounds like an oil out classic :(
searching is fruitful | I'm a sponge not a mechanic | please do try that if stuck with a Puma problem whilst waiting for a reply | For the Puma fan this read 'The Inside Story Book' is very nice to own sometimes still seen for sale

Give Alan at Pumabuild a call , he might be interested in having it if the price was right or he maybe able to sort an engine replacement if that was what you preferred to do.

I think i'd be taking it for second and third opinion on the engine condition....

sounds like REDICULOUS guess work to me... if they havn't done a decent leak down test and compression values etc...then i'd take it with a pinch of salt... ;)

Cheers all for the comments.

Afraid to say, yes a bit low on oil :(

Had a really busy few months travelling a lot for work, and fell rather behind on the TLC!

The Ford garage comments confirmed what the RAC had already said. But not being a mechanic, I couldn't say for sure. And I have no idea how much they took it apart before coming to that conclusion.

Sounds like oil starvation causing bottom end failure... massively common unfortunately.

Hopefully someone will take her on and fix her up. Seems a shame to pull it apart.

sometimes between services mines ok - other times it drinks oil - personally never trust the oil light

check mine every couple of thousand now - esp with 160K on the clock
RPJ DAMPENERS - POWERFLEX ALLROUND - JANSPEED SS SYSTEM - SOLD - probably in bits now...

the puma does not have a low oil warning light it only has an oil pressure warning light which by the time this comes on is normally too late.

wish i had the space and funds to buy it as its not a difficult job to change over all the frp engine parts if you had both engines out of the car and having a cam timing tool would make it even easier for me :-).
