Randomly browsing the Web, I came across some "Wheel Arch Guard Trim", which according to the site "Adds style to, and protects your wheel arches. Universal fitting wheel arch trim. Impact absorbing design supplied on a 5 meter roll, enough to cover most cars."

It's about 2/3 way down the page linked below:

http://www.gbdriver.co.uk/acatalog/car-sea...protection.html

Has anyone used this or something similar on their puma (or any other car) ?

I was considering it as a temporary 'fix' for the rust on the rear wheel arches, but was curious if anyone had any previous experience with this or anything like it?

I googled Armourfend, but i'm not quite sure i understand...

it just sounds like a clear film that i put over somewhere to prevent the paint/plastics from getting scratched or chipped?

If i or one of the armourfend franchises sticks this on, it will just show the rust through the film?

I asked about the stuff i originally mentioned as i wanted to cover up the rust so you couldn't see it smile.gif

Best to get the rust sorted out, then Armourfend the panels, to stop stone chips causing rust again.

the wheel arch whilst prone to the stones chip is perhaps not the most vulnerable pats of the body I don't think. Mud flaps on the over hand do protect one of those areas.
searching is fruitful | I'm a sponge not a mechanic | please do try that if stuck with a Puma problem whilst waiting for a reply | For the Puma fan this read 'The Inside Story Book' is very nice to own sometimes still seen for sale

I've often wondered if a strip of black plastic stuck under the lips of the arches would protect them from problems. It seems to be standard to have some trim there on cars I've seen including a 99 Honda civic. Seems to work for them.

It looks like stick on plastic strip. I can't see how that would help at all with the rusty arches on a Puma...if anything it will probably fall off after a while, taking the loose paint with it..or trap moisure even more accelerating the rate of the arches rusting...

That's true, the later mk1 MR2s are quite prone to rusty sills apparently due to the side skirts they added trapping moisture. Te earlier mk1 MR2s didn't have the skirts and have no rust issues.
