Just check the Bridge halfway through the voyage to ensure that its not left empty with the radar alarm on!!!!

Cheap foriegn crews are dodgy like that!!

We boarded a tanker in the gulf and went to the bridge to find no-one there with the radar on alarm linked to the accomdation intercom. Shame our ship was not picked up.

How the hell that they din't hear the helicopter overhead i don't know, but the deck officers nearly had a heart attack when we burst into the officers mess and asked where the person manning the bridge was and he put his hand up!!!!

This is the transcript on an ACTUAL radio conversation of a US Naval ship with Canadian authorities off the coast of Newfoundland in October, 1995. Radio conversation released by the Chief of Naval Operations 10 - 10 - 95.

Americans: Please divert your course 15 degrees to the North to avoid a collision.
Canadians: Recommend you divert YOUR course 15 degrees to the south to avoid a collision.
Americans: This is the Captain of a US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course.
Canadians: No. I say again you divert YOUR course.
Americans: THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER USS LINCOLN, THE SECOND LARGEST SHIP IN THE UNITED STATES` ATLANTIC FLEET. WE ARE ACCOMPANIED BY THREE DESTROYERS, THREE CRUISERS AND NUMEROUS SUPPORT VESSELS. I DEMAND THAT YOU CHANGE YOUR MEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THIS SHIP.
Canadians: This is a lighthouse. Your call.

Heard it before and it is supposed to be true. the yanks are like that though.

the destroyer i was serving on a few years ago was tasked by the US carrier to be on station 4 cables (800yards) in a sector astern of USS Nimitz.

the idiots put us in the direct landing path for the aircraft who couldn't land because the correct flightpath took them too close to our 1022 radar under RADHAZ rules!!!!

Martin, just be aware that due to my job i still don't know where I'll be in August yet and won't know for some time so positive confirmation may take a while. Won't effect my paying of deposits etc if needed but might end up with me pulling out a few weeks before if things go pete tong.

no worries Warren, my best guess is this thing won't be finalised until a few weeks before anyway, I've been watching the Motorsport Ireland website; dates seem to be released just weeks before the events anyway....

don't worry bud....but I do thank you for your honesty

I'll start the booking process in January - boat - hotel etc....early days yet mate.... biggrin.gif
