This has been a thought of mine for a while, but never heard of it being done.

Plenty of Puma engines fitted into Fiestas though!!!!

Why not just turbo a 1.7 Puma ?
It's nice to be important but it's more important to be nice !!

Putting a turbo onto a 1.7 Puma is a labour of love, time consuming, and can be very very expensive too.

So do Fiesta RS Turbo engines when put into a puma - its all to do with the factory in which the two cars were made

Intersted if anyone does actually know weather this is a unbolt & bolt in job,I realise if you fabricate mounts, you can fit what you like whereever. Can anyone answer this question?

This topic caught my eye, how come it blows up when in a puma whats different?
I would of thought it would of been a bolt in job and would work just as it did in the fiesta .. but then again my knowledge on the subject is very limited

I assumed the guy talking about exploding engines was making reference to what'll happen if you apply forced induction to a standard se engine, 11:1 compression ratio is too high to apply a worth while amount of boost, thats not to say you can't lower the CR first.Getting off the point again,Im guessing the fiesta turbo uses IB5 gearbox same as puma,so as no one has offered a definitive answer,it looks like your gonna have to get your tape measure out and size up the engine mounts.Im under the impression that the location of the exhaust & inlet are opposite to the puma's zetec se,so space between engine and bulkhead may be an issue.Finding someone with a fiesta turbo you can size up in itself could be a mission,I don't rember the last time I saw one on the road, owners club meeting?,the fiesta turbo shares the same running gear as the escort turbo doesn't it?If it is a straight forward mechano exercise, its surprises me that they're not a shed load out there.

Basically, if the conversion is done properly using good condition parts and thinking about everything before buying anything, theres no reason why it can't be a successful conversion. The problems start when using second hand bits of unknown condition, trying to take shortcuts to keep it cheap and not thinking the whole thing through before hand.

Does it use standard mounts,or do you have to fabricate?

You need to fabricate the o/s engine mount.

The link in post No. 5 shows someone who has ZVH turbo'd, and then Zetec turbo'd their Puma.

it will fit,

you need the gear box from a 1.8 derv mk4 or mk5 fiesta for the correct starter position.
you need the long drive shaft from the mk6 escort.

your going to have to run both engine bay wireing looms, and to keep things simple i would run the frst dial loom and convert your clocks to run from this loom ( i have a diagram some where)
you have to keep the standard puma ecu for the lights ect.

id also run the frst fual tank sensor and pump, to get pressure and gauge correct.

theres a few other hard bits, what to do with the heater contral valve for example, i was just going to knco it through and only have a hot heater.

id also look at putting a lsd into the ib5 box as youll be loosing the 3 piece shafts

hope that helps.

oh yeah, you weld the frst mount onto the drivers wing

Ive done it!!! Full fiesta rs turbo running gear into a Puma. Nice daily drive when not driving the FRP!! It wasnt as easy as we originally thought but with the help of my mates Geoff (Chorley Street Garage) and Ste (SC Auto Electrics) we got there in the end!!

Any questions, ask away!!!

Did you use the RST g.box,or the diesel fiesta box (does diesel box got torque limiter?)And did you take the same route and fabricating an engine mount & use mk 6 escort d.shafts.Is puma rad. sufficient for cooling? What did you use for ecu?

I used the fiesta courier diesel box as it has the correct gearbox mountings and the started motor is located in the position needed for a CVH. We rebuilt the box using rs turbo internals and LSD. We used an rs turbo engine mount fabricated to the puma shell and kept the standard puma driveshafts by modifying the block.

We have used a fiesta turbo pro alloy rad with custom brackets as with the intercooler and fan.

The puma ecu was binned and just the RST ecu is used on mine. We had to use the clocks from an escort and everything works as it should. Not sure how as I'm not clued up on wiring but Ste certainly knows what he's doing!!!
