I bought my Puma in April for £395 from a local woman who's had it since 2012.

I've changed the oil and the radio, put on 4 new tyres, and regassed the aircon so it now works.

I have 2 issues I need help with -

1.The slow speed cooling fan resistor is dead - the Ford part is 98FB9A819AC but these are now seemingly made of unobtainium. I've examined the part and the actual resistor coil is fine - there's a small electrical component in there which looks like a diode and has gone open circuit - anyone know if this is indeed a diode? If so, I can get one and replace it. Failing that - a source for a good replacement?

2.There's a horrendous creaking noise from the front suspension that only happens after the car's been used for a bit - the creak comes going over speed bumps etc - it's very loud and embarassing - I thought it might be a broken front spring - but jacking it up and pulling/prodding anything front suspension related hasn't shown up anything obvious - any ideas?

The Haynes Fiesta Manual (3397) can answer a lot of your questions.

Thanks, but no - that is for the heater fan, not the cooling (radiator) fan.

Thanks for the speedy replies folks, really appreciated.

Typically, after I posted, the guy in Germany who said he couldn't supply the resistor came back to me and said he had located one - so fingers crossed on that.

Thanks for the tip on wishbone bushes - I will check again - I have a Haynes book on the way (for FIesta) so I'll see what's involved in changing them - probably due, even if that's not what's causing the noise.

Hello,

Might not be this but get your strut mounts checked also. After eating the inner edges of my front tyres and then having the tracking realigned mine started making the same noises after a long drive and that's what it was. They are £72 for the pair from Ford plus fitting - but I didn't get them to do it! Posted Image

Thanks again all. The resistor came today from Germany - fitted it and now have my low speed fan back.

This is the item in case anyone's interested - not listed as fitting my Puma, but it does and it works.
