That is fascinating and I am now going away for half an hour to try it! I'll post the result here later.

Looks good and seems top produce pretty good results. I just need to get myself a tripod (or some other suitable support method) and give it a try smile.gif

It also sounds like a pretty simple but effective method. the only tricky bit coming if you let the camera (or subject) move at all during the shooting.

if he has come up with that on his own the lad has quite a brain on him smile.gif

I can confirm that it does work, but the effect is quite subtle. Here are the results.

First is a detail section of the original image, obviously all the shots have been resized and converted to jpeg to upload

Next, is a detail after applying unsharp mask (using the same settings as I will in the next step)

Finally, a detail from the finished image, plus the full image.

The final image is richer, smoother and sharper, but the effect is quite subtle. I had to do a few back to backs to really appreciate the difference. Therefore, I am sure I will use this technique in future, but only on specific, planned images.

Thanks Matt, that was interesting!

Can Jessie stand absolutely still? You could try it on your studio shots then!

..... and blinking, and twitching!

Actually, if you shoot in motor drive mode, it's only for a few seconds, so not too bad.

need a rock solid tripod though, as you still get camera shake from the movement in in the shutter as it slams about wink.gif

awwww, so you can't use that technique to shoot her if someone is tickling her feet? that's a crap technique then laugh.gif

I suppose the success of the technique may well depend on how good your camera is with noise in the first place.

How many pictures did you take for your trial Mikey?

5. I used 4 in these shots but have since done it again with all 5. The end result isn't much different, as you might expect. The great thing with technique is just how far you can push the unsharp mask without ruining the picture.
