Stop bottled water ebing shipped or air freighted around the world.

I am sick fed up of ill informed do gooders telling me as a driver i am to blame for the end of the world, the death of JFK etc.

If the Government really wanted to be environmentally friendlt they would stop companies importing water. Not only do we have many springs in this country we also have adequate tap water.

The only time bottled water should ever be moved from its country of origin is for humanitarian relief efforts.

I very rarely buy bootled water or even drinks but if I do then I always buy a british brand. I wonder how many sandle wearing hippies eat out of season fruit and drink volvic or evian!

Apparently some eateriies have water sommeliers! ranting2.gif

Yes, although coffee carries the most virtual water (i.e. the water taken to grow it and transport it) of any product (IIRC from my MSc anyway). Also tea and sugar etc etc.

The most important change we need is to simply stop being a growth economy and that will never happen sad.gif

I drink a 2 litre bottle everyday without fail, there are a lot worse things that people do that affect the environment a lot more, bottled water is just the latest one the media have jumped on the bandwagon with - it'll be something else in a few months time. huh.gif (it was shopping carier bags the other month!)

The point of this post Spens was that noone seems to be all that fussed for things that actually affect the environment.

The Government has gone banzai on bags and supermarkets are getting all self righteous whilst ignoring all the useless packaging they go through.

The ban on water going across borders was my idea as far as I know, I have not heard it before. They could also ban Olay as they make nothing necessary. Thing is we live in a consumerist society and people buy new suites every 3 years and buyt new TVs and new phones which is stripping the few resources we have left. Vereyone just needs to think before they buy I guess and recycle more and also invent an engine that runs on salt! huh.gif

The Government seem to use the GREEN label to increase tax on everything and anything.
Then say they have to do it for the environment ! where does all that money go??
The petrol one seems to be back firing at the moment, as does the massive rise in car tax, just around the corner.

Tax on carrier bags next.

Ah but if you recycle and "make do and mend" then you stifle commerce. You cant win whatever you do.

Perhaps we should just accept that we've killed the planet, as far as we know, the only life capable body in the universe, and get on with the end of the world party. Seems to be the way many people think anyway.

My idea would be to BAN cardboard containers for breakfast cereals - there is simply no need for them. I myself get back from the supermarket and empty 3 boxes of cereal into a container and immediately throw the boxes (for recylcling i might add) - what a waste!! - same can be said for a lot of packaging but i deffinately think they could immediately ban ceral packets cos the ALL already come with interior bags!! - Jordans have started ditching the boxes which is a start.

Yes I thought there was meant to be some sort of shake-up with supermarket packaging but all that happened was they tried to discourage us using plastic bags rolleyes.gif

we have noticed that some products are now being sold with more minimalist packaging.

i.e: Tomato puree now comes in a tube, without the cardboard box

I still don't understand why 4 pack yoghurts need a cardboard sleeve.

Going back to bottled water, the plastic used for the bottles can be recycled; but instead, millions are thrown into landfills where they fail to decompose.
