Hi all,
This is more of an observational / FYI type post really, though i thought it is worth sharing out of sheer interest if nothing else.

I bought a 2nd hand 1.7 Puma last week and it came with an old mucked up Pipercross cone filter on it, no cold air feed. I used to own a 1.7 puma a few years back and the one i bought last week felt no where near as quick, in fact it felt like the engine was struggling to rev up and just wouldn't pull like the last one, so it got me thinking HEGO sensor / MAF etc must be at fault.

Anyway, as the old Pipercross filter was looking shabby, i bought a Ramair cone filter and cold air feed pipe from ebay, and as unbelievable as it seems to me, it has made all the difference and the car pulls all the way past 100mph (on a private test track) with no effort at all, whereas before i had to fight with it to go past 70 mph!! The revs fly up and down especially quick compared to before.

Now i'm not a sales rep for Ram air before anybody says anything, and i don't know for sure if the problem solved itself by sheer fluke, but whatever poor effect the Pipercross filter had must have been due to the build up of crap and dirt on it, effectively choking the engine.

Has anybody else had a similar experience? All i know is that the puma flies again, i just need to sort the tracking now...

Blake.
