Hi,

I'm currently debating how to install my panasonic MD. Easist option is a facia adaptor but they come in black. Has anyone found a colour match for the silver on the dash?

Cheers,

Alan

After a good wet'n'dry sand down of the black textured finish, Halfords Ford Moondust Silver acrylic with a clear lacquer coat looked fine to me.

I don't know of an exact match so I went for Moondust Silver as well, it makes it all look very striking.

Important things to note are:-

1. Buy the Ford facia adapter, the rest are rubbish, I know this and it cost me £15 to find out.

2. Make sure you spray the plastic with a plasticote priper (after you have lightly sanded it if poss but you dont need to sand it if u use this (available from halfords) so that the paint will stick to it.

3. Spray the Moondust Silver sparingly and build it up in layers 2 - 3 layers will do, u can spray 10 mins after each layer.

4. Important:- spray a clear laquer over the moondust silver the next day and then let this dry for a day before fitting. (This will make it all shiny and protect it from scratches otherwise the moondust silver will scratch off with even the slightest of knocks.

With my Panasonic CD player it came with a surround that you have to take off when taking the unit out, if you have one of these spray this the same as above for a good finishing touch.

Regards

Robert.

Thats good to know about the Plasticote primer - I had always assumed that you could only use their own make top coats - never thought about using other spray paint as a top coat over this....opens up many possibilities.

should be done by the second week in may, i'll post pics to see what you think.

Regards

Alan

The Autoleads 'Silver' fascia isnt silver I'm afraid, its just a lighter grey. I know cos thats what I got.

I used a grey primer then Halfords Aluminium spray paint. Worked a treat.

Didnt bother sanding looks perfectly ok.

I have pics if necessary.

I have the autoleads one and its the same colour as my dash, no difference and it didnt need spraying. Oh well maybe you got a slighty different one.

Yep must have, I ordered it about 2 years ago. It said Silver on the box label but it was a slate grey colour. Perhaps they have now changed it after customers complained. Good to know it now matches in case I want to replace it and cant be bothered to re-spray etc.

The amp is a 5 channel genisis amp running front diamond components and a 10" diamond sub.

the amp takes up the whole depth of the boot, i was a bit disappointed that you can't see all of it. but i think if the cut out was any bigger it would look rubbish.

Is that components front and rear? Looking forward to seeing your head unit pics. Are you using one of those power caps? When are they necessary? I am adding a second amp shortly and have heard that I might need a 1F power cap as well!

just components in the front and no speakers in the back.

The puma being such a small car the sub provides all the rear fill and the components in the front supply your treble and mid. this is the best way to set up the car in my opinion and most professional car installers.

what are you running in your car matt?? if your lights dim when the bass is going you know you need a power cap.

I've got alpine components in the front running off a sony head unit and have CD changer and Pioneer active sub (tube thing) in the boot. It does the job but there is a gap between the sub top end and the bottom end of the components. I was gonna add an amp and 6x9s in the rear to try and sort it. Would it be better to amp the fronts and not bother with upgrading the rears?

I wouldnt bother with a powercap. If you need to have more juice in there get a second battery.
