Only had my wee puma 3 weeks and this is the 2nd times he's had to go into the garage to be fixed. first time round was the clutch had completely slipped and the abs sensors had failed. Thats all sorted now. so happily driving it about for 2 weeks no problems at all, until driving along a main road and thinking hey the car feels funny, pull over open the bonnet and a cloud of smoke came out from the fan area. Came to the conclusion that the ac had gone as its no longer working. 2 hours later while driving the 4 miles home, wow temp gauge goes wayyy above the red! oh oh! thermostats gone, and the fan that kicks in when its idling has gone so major overheating going on. timing belt, water pump, thermo and fan all getting replaced this week. anything else that could possibly go wrong? so I can get it checked out before I drive off again?

Thanks!! (:

Hopefully! Want to start enjoying it now! Beginning to think it prefers the garage to my driving lol! All hoses look fine, cant see any leaks as far as i can see any ways. Getting the mechanic to give it a good going over though! Need new brake disks/pads as well as the drivers side is warped pain in the ass thing is when I took them off to have a proper look at the condition and there near enough brand new, 10k still left in the pads ... this car may hate me! The only thing that went wrong in my wee ka was the alternator in the 18 months i had that :/ so I'm used to cars just working for me., And there all garage jobs not drive way jobs :/ Joys! Cheers for the help guys! x

It can happen when you move onto another car things go wrong with the new car when the car you had before was running great. I know a guy who has had a fiesta for 6 years and he's had no bother he's so tempted to get rid of his I keep saying don't do it you'll regret it. The car has been so reliable for him.

Hopefully you won't have any more bother for awhile You've more or less rebuilt it again!

I know it never used to be. It wouldn't be so bad if there were more scots on it to get a few meets together I'd go to them but need a few of us to turn up there's just not enough regulars on here loads of have registered just not regulars dunno if it's because they'e sold there puma or there is maybe another reason which is a shame. It's the only puma site there is

Still loads of pumas on the road. I see them all the time makes you wonder why there isn't more signed up. In Scotland most people that own a puma just seem to think that it's just a car and nothing more to it, thats the vibe i get from them it's totally different down in england they seem to take abit more pride in the pumas, thats just my opinion anyway.

Rusting is a pain if it's on the rear arches When I bought a Puma thunder couple of years ago now there was rust underneath and the rear arches. I only had it a couple of years spent alot of money on it not on repairs it was a very reliable motor think the only thing it needed was a new battery. I spent alot of money on parts and modified it quite abit I got a full respray aswell and got those rear arches cut out twice but the rust came back again which was really frustration, I then gave it to my sister and it's falling apart lol she's wrecked it! I want it back off her! think she's looking to get a new motor soon it's abit expensive to run for her, I'd take it back in a minute.

I got the dealer i bought it from to respray the arches so not to sure how well a jobs been done! passenger side door has rust at the edges which I can fix myself if its ever out the garage for long enough! and going to waxoyl the whole thing too. I'm thinking of a respray as the colour I have is a pain to respray. Thinking of getting it a navy blue/dark purple colour, just to make it mines lol. How much would a respray cost? also random question do you know what the socket type for the headlights is? H4 or H3? looking into getting Led's as the lights are rather yellow! x

There is a guide in the Wiki on how best to clean the headlight units to make the most of them, plus you can remove a fair amount of the surface scratches using something like safe cut and elbow grease :)
I personally would keep the money for maintenance as a respray is a grand and more really I think.
Coolant should be completely changed every 10 years so you may find yours has never been done and sounds like it would fit in wiht the work needed.
Hope you get it back soon and that there was no over heating damage.
searching is fruitful | I'm a sponge not a mechanic | please do try that if stuck with a Puma problem whilst waiting for a reply | For the Puma fan this read 'The Inside Story Book' is very nice to own sometimes still seen for sale
