I recently had 4 new Continental tyres fitted and a few days later I noticed one of my wheel nut covers was missing.

The wheel nut cover isn't supposed to come off and you have to buy a whole new bolt (about £6 from Ford). I checked all the others and 2 more were lose so I thnk the monkey who fitted the tyres over did it with the air gun.

I've fixed the loose ones but I suggest you check yours today !!

Ive lost about 4 or 5 over the 4 years of owning my Thunder - Not great considering Ford charge £5 each (iirc) for a poxy wheelnut as replacement - you cant just buy the covers. another Puma quirk!!

This is why you should torque up your wheel nuts with a torque wrench.

These nuts are reguarly available on eBay. Puma's only had them when fitted with wheels with visible wheel nuts, i.e. not with propeller wheels, F1 style, etc.

it stops the nuts themselves coming loose, which is potentially much more catestrophic.

Well out of the 12 on the Focus, I have got about 2 left with the covers on, so it's not just a Puma quirk, it's very annoying.

I have considered replacing them with solid ended ones instead of the open ones with covers, but I just haven't got round to it yet.

Apparently you can get reasonable ones from Rally Design.

Pumapilot - If you have the 9 spoke alloys you will have the wheel nuts with steel covers. They aren't meant to come off and you apply a socket set to them as normal. My girlfriends Peugeot had plastic wheel nut covers that you had to remove first to get to the nut (or is it bolt?, never quite sure).

I thought they were all one piece but they aren't. Too much power in the air gun must separate the cover from the bolt. The tyre guy was a monkey and he didn't torque my nuts for me which is poor.

The parts guy at Ford said he sells quite a few but at £6 a time I'll get some off eBay if I lose another.

Good link Pumasparky - would these be rust proof ?

Not sure, I've just been surfing and can't decide. The description is a bit vague.

I also found sets on abay for less that £20 delivered and some sites such as

http://www.mistertee.co.uk/6.html which look good, but I can't find the prices.

I have 9 spoke alloys & have never heard of Pumas having wheel nut covers before, i always thought that the wheel nuts/bolts were solid.

Some of my original 9 spoke nuts had covers, some didn't. My new tuner nuts don't have that problem so one less thing to worry about...lol
