Ford Racing Puma – Number 013

 Stunning low mileage example – 58k miles
 Lots of history, service history, all MOTs present, all receipts, thousands spent
 Car specific private plate – N13 FRP (Number 13 Ford Racing Puma)
 MOT to June 2013, Tax to Feb 2013
 Brand New Interior!

HPI Clear, no recorded accidents or outstanding finance.

£6995 or sensible offers...

It’s with great reluctance that I’m selling my cherished Ford racing Puma. The car has been lovingly cared for during my ownership and I have lavished considerable time/money on original replacement items to bring the car up to its current condition. I’m a true Ford enthusiast and this is my third puma (second FRP) and will testify to the honest original condition of my FRP is now getting hard to find. I have owned over 30+ sporty/hot hatch cars and the FRP is by far the greatest driving experience for the money and one of the most thrilling cross country B-road cars to drive today! A test drive will seduce you to the FRP’s qualities within minutes.

The car has been my weekend toy and I just don’t get the time to enjoy it enough now I have a growing family and my work commitments have increased over the last year.

The car’s history can be tracked easily via the associated owner’s club forums and the original first owner is known to me and he purchased the car locally from my local Ford dealer in Horsham, West Sussex.

This FRP has the usual unique features produced by Ford and its Tickford build partner and it has been carefully brought up to a great standard of condition with only top quality original parts.

Lots of money spent over the last 18 months including:

 Brand New interior! New original Sparco Seats (super rare and never sat on without the tailored fitted covers), New Door Cards, New Rear Seat, New FRP Specific Floor Mats – smells like new!
 Rear underbody restoration, top quality rust protection products used (Ford aren’t very good with underfloor protection from the factory!), lots of new parts, some hard to come by now, such as handbrake cable, rear disc splash guards, rear braided brake hoses etc.
 Some Fresh paintwork. The car was repainted a couple of years ago before my ownership to tidy up the usual stone chips on the front end and sides only – I have subsequently had the remaining panels (rear bumper and tailgate) recently painted by my local professional paintshop. Armourfend paint protection film is fitted on bonnet, wings and rear arches so very limited light stone chips on front bumper only.
 Up to date expensive service items. Recent top quality items purchased to make the car run perfectly; New Bosch Battery, New Bosch Hego Sensor, New Original Ford Idle Control Valve.
 This FRP is running spot on and is ready to go and enjoy!

Please read on for more details:

Interior
 Brand new (out of the box) original specification Sparco Tarino Seats purchased this summer.
 Since being fitted, they have always been covered by tailored seat protectors (see pics).
 New door cards – previous items were in mint condition but the alcantara material panel had sagged, a common problem with early FRPs.
 Brand new rear seat base and seat back.
 Brand new FRP specific floor mats (super rare now) – these are totally unused and still in as new condition.
 The steering wheel was replaced before my ownership around 52k miles and the alcantara is in really good condition.
 New Sparco alloy pedal extensions fitted.
 All in the new interior has cost over £1500!

Engine
 Full service history; main Ford Dealers, including FRP specialists such as Tremona Garage and other FRP specialists PumaBuild.
 Recent service by me (I’m a very experienced kart racing mechanic of 10+ years) in May, only a couple of thousand miles ago.
 Last service in May 2012 included; all filters/oil/air/fuel/pollen, original Ford Spark Plugs, New Ford Sump Plug, Castrol Magnatec 5W 30 Oil, Brake Fluid Flushed & Replaced.
 New Bosch Battery, Hego Sensor and Original Ford Idle Control Valve Fitted a couple of months ago.
 Cambelt was changed by Pumabuild at 40k miles
 Pumabuild/Piper full stainless steel exhaust system and manifold fitted – top quality and comes with the authentic FRP crackle/pop!

Bodywork
 Car was painted on front end and rear arches to remove common stone chips around 8k miles ago.
 Tailgate/rear bumper painted last month to bring quality of finish up to the rest of the paintwork.
 Armourfend paint protection film fitted on bonnet, wings and rear arches.
 Bodywork is in great condition, although there is a small rust blister starting to appear on the near side rear arch – around the size of a 5 pence piece. I was looking to get this professionally repaired but haven’t had the time, will be a small job and will cost approx £200 to rectify
 Rear underfloor restoration took place in the summer (see pics) using top quality Bilt Hamber products. Under boot floor area was stripped back and rust inhibitor applied before Zinc rich coating finished off by Waxoyl protection.

Drivetrain
 Front Alcon brakes are in top condition, fully serviced with stainless steel fixings and cleaned regularly. They are quiet and smooth in operation.
 Front discs are separate rotors with motorsport alloy bells. They’re in great condition.
 Rear end of the car was fully refurbished in the summer during the underbody rust protection, removal and repainting of fuel tank and rear beam; included new handbrake cable, new original rear shocks, rear discs/pads, rear brake splash guards, new exhaust heat shields, new braided brake hoses, new Ford rear wheel bearing and ABS wheel, new original Ford exhaust rubbers, all bolts/fixings replaced with new original Ford items (see pics).
 Front strut top mounts replaced and front wheel bearings.
 This FRP rides the bumps well, still firm (as it should be) but no crashing suspension!
 All four wheels are in mint unkerbed straight condition. They are fitted with FRP original alloy valve covers/caps. They run straight and true, no balancing issues.
 Two Vredstein Sessanta tyres (quite expensive) fitted to the front wheels, Two Avon ZZ3 fitted to the rear. All tyres have nearly new tread depth remaining.

I’m in no particular hurry to sell but will listen to sensible offers from the right buyer.

Please let me know if you need any further information, I have a full catalogue of photographs.

I can be contacted on 07540 304051 if you would like to view the car – I’m based in West Sussex.

Thanks for looking, John

To add to my original advert. I have lots of new original spares available at additional cost - I will offer these for first refusal to the new owner but please let me know if anyone is interested and I will hold these if still available after the sale. These include:
  • brand new and original cobalt blue alcantara spare material (will measure but approx. 6ft x 5ft),
  • full set of new original spec Eibach suspension units (front & rear) including top mounts/springs,
  • brand new rear seat base,
  • set of brand new front Eibach suspension units, with springs/top mounts,
  • press car spec (30mm) rear spacers manufactured in high quality solid billet (with correct original Ford high tensile specific longer bolts),
  • brand new limited edition (1/1500) boxed gear knob (with the clear resin segment showing puma logo and edition number) comes with original box,
  • brand new original Ford alternator,
  • brand new original Ford front ABS sensor,
  • brand new original FRP spec alloy wheel centre caps and inserts (super rare!),
  • used rear shock units (55k miles),
  • used rear brake hoses (some attention needed to nut ends as slightly rounded off but can be saved),
  • used handbrake cable (very good condition, can't be too old),
  • original FRP door cards (mint but require alcantara panel to be refixed as currently sagging),
  • new Ford inlet manifold gasket,
  • brand new prototype Ford Racing rear quarter panel glass badges (separate 'ford' and 'racing'badges not one unit),
  • lots of as new memorabilia; FRP brochures, posters, magazine features,
  • brand new Ford rear number plate light unit (these are a must as usually the clips break when replacing the bulbs),
  • brand new Ford (FRP spec) front wishbone bushes (rear bushes),
  • new Ford door mirror glass (not sure if they are sided but will check),
  • spare tailgate (good condition, no damage or rust - in panther black) with top quality MS design spoiler fitted with high level brake light,
  • New original FRP driver's side front wheel arch liner,
  • tailored front seat covers with Ford Racing logo designed to fit snuggly on the Sparcos (see pics) as new condition.

I've probably missed some other spares and will have a sort out in the garage in the coming days and will add to this list.

Cheers
John

**Price Reduced**

looking for around £6995 ono...

It's obviously a quiet time of year for selling so I think this is a more realistic price, although #013 is attracting lots of interest via the eBay ad (over 2k views and 90+ watchers). A couple of enquiries but nothing serious yet...

I've not used her at all over the last 4-6 weeks, the weather has been awful and it again shows the limited time I have available to enjoy her :(

Hi im interested but am a bit concerned about the paintwork its had.... The ad says it was painted 8k miles ago ( the whole car?) then you reprinted the rear and it now needs more paint on the arch?

Hi,
I would like to reassure you, the previous owner had the bonnet, bumper, front wings and rear arches repainted to tidy up the usual stone chips. You will find that most FRPs have been repainted; 1) because of stone chips and 2) the original ford paintwork wasn't particularly great in terms of matching colours on the different panels.

I'm very fussy and wanted a couple of annoying marks sorted, so had the opportunity to get the rear bumper and tailgate painted (these were un-painted by the previous owner and looked to have the original paint from the factory). The work was done by my local bodyshop, where the colour/tone has been perfectly matched (not a cheap job). The tailgate had a slight scratch in the lacquer (approx. 3 inches long) and the bumper had a couple of air bubbles in the paintwork (a common problem with paint on fibreglass) this made the whole bodywork pristine apart from the small imperfection in the near side arch (small rust bubble). I would recommend viewing the car as the car's condition will speak for itself.

Please give me a call if required, cheers,
John

Well...the ad on eBay has run to the end without a sale. I had a number of frustrating/silly offers as normal despite over 3k hits and over 100+ watchers. I received an interesting call from a classic ford collector but we couldn't agree on a price.

I took 013 for a run on Saturday and I realised that its such a fantastic car and nothing else puts a smile on my face even when sticking to the speed limit! Im going to do the right thing and keep hold of her.

It feels like the right thing to do!

I had exactly the same problems when I sold her first time around.

Glad you're keeping hold of her :-)

I was starting to predict the future;
- Sell 013 for £7k
- feel gutted
- a few months pass
- buy some other car that doesn't really hit the spot
- a few years pass
- the world comes to its senses and appreciate the exclusivity (nearing cossie RS500 territory)
- the value of FRPs shoot through the roof
- top quality spares are now reproduced and freely available
- the yearning and pain takes over
- buy another FRP that's no way near as nice as #013 for £20k!
- typical economic sense for a car mad fruit cake

This thought process also helped to make up my mind :-)

Can't agree more John had the same problem with trying to sell V4 lots of interest till it came to talking money. I'm sure eventually they will be recognised for what they are and will hit good money in the meantime I'm going to use V4 for what he was built for "having lots of driving fun" on the Hillclimb scene.

Its great that you're using V4 to fly the FRP flag with the hillclmb fraternity. Would love to do something similar in the future. I've hung my kart racing boots up for a while and taking more the Ross Brawn/Martin Whitmarsh type role now but I still get the itch to compete!

What part of the country are you in and where's your nearest hill, would love to check out a few meets.

John I'm over in west Wales 6 miles from the famous B4069. Looking to use V4 in the Bugatti Owners Club B Licence championship based at Prescott if the car qualifies and things go ok with licence applications etc.
