Me and the G/f had made a big profit off the sale of the flat , and had a big deposit on our humble abode, we also paid a lump sum of £7 grand a few year back - have lots of equity in my home - I guess its money well invested - Bought the house for £108500 now worth approx £150 ,000

Think I was lucky to get it before things started going really sky high bought for £45k for a 2 bedroom terrace and a 40'x35' plot of land. Recently remortgaged it to £65k to afford a new big garage and other home improvements
Mortgage is about £335 (I think) fixed for the next 9 years and 9 months lol
a young couple at our place recently went to their mortgage advisor and the only thing he could suggest was to put their names on the local list for a council house, live in one for a few years and then try to buy it relatively cheap. There was no other way they could afford a house.

We bought our house new just 5 years ago for £75k and its value now at roughly £140K !!!..the area have taken off massively with lots of regeneration and these newer houses are becomming sought after in the area hence the sharp rise. We often think about cashing in and moving somewhere else, but its all relative at the end of the day.
Am a bit gutted now because 2 years ago when the rate was mega low (4.25% i think) i was offered a 10 year fixed rate at 5%!! and refused it at the time cos i didnt think for one minute that the rate would rise so quickly as it has..(neither did the banks by the look of it!!).
If the mortgage rate keeps going up then inevitably i will have to make cutbacks with certain things....what though i dont know cos i dont Smoke, dont drink (much!!), dont have any expensive habits!!...and the Puma isnt exactly expensive to run so id do well to get a much cheaper running car!!.- i just dont know how people get on with £200K mortgages!!
