was speaking to a rather nice chap today, and he seemed to know his stuff, especialy fords, but im not sure if this part was a load of balls to be honest......

i was saying that im currently looking for quotes for a full respray of my car, in either RS style white, or matte black....upon hearing matte black, he informed me that it is a realy easy colour to do and a lovely finish would be attainable via simply rubbing the current paint work down (not removing it), so that it was completely dull, and spraying right over it with a couple of coats of the matte black...

if the original colour wont have to be removed, this obviously would keep the overall costs lower, and matte black is apparently a realy easy colour to work with...

i dont know anything about this field, therefore would like to know if this fella is talking out of his pooh shoot or not..??

also, has anybody had any respray quotes at all for the puma?

hi,
hope this is ofhelp to you...
when respraying many
people mistakenly believe that the original paint needs to be either removed or primed over. this is incorrect. in order for the new paint to stick, the existing surface be it paint or grey primer or whatever needs to be keyed first meaning that the surface must be prepared in order for the new paint to stick. Two methods are commonly used; wet and dry abrasive papers (600 or 800 grit) or the use of a scotchpad. the number of times i have seen customers bringing in cars to be sprayed having been sprayed in grey primer is unbelievable. once the paint surface has been prepared it is simply a matter of painting over. if any repairs are made; dents etc and filler is used then primer must be used before spraying over.
matt black is fairly easy as it generally doesn't show up any imprefections. Gloss black however is a different story - the bodywork must be perfect.
hope this help.
any questions please ask.
thanks

Only car i've seen sprayed matt black was a vaux cavalier. Yes it's a nasty car anyway, but the paint looked awful!! it just looked like they had attempted to go for black but forgot to use laquer or something.

Do white, those pics of white puma's look cool!

vynal wrap is about £1500 to be done properly, its really easy to spray matte black, no need for laquering!

Matte black does look mean, my kids spotted a matte black kat parked on the New Cross one way couple of weeks ago, it was on black alloys, didn't clock the reg so didn't "was it you" it. It looked evil.

Defo not to my liking, sorry. A car should shine and polish up! But each to their own, thats why we are all different and have our own opinions :)
