Sorry if this thread has been up in the past couldn't find anything on it so I've come to you guys for help.

When I put the blower on cold or cold to mid temp the air being blown in smells funny (dampish one could say). Put the aircon to get rid of it and it goes but as soon as the aircon goes off it comes back again.

Any one got an idea of what this could be?

I've always had this in cars with air-con.
I only get it for a few minutes just after turning air-con off, then it passes.
I reckon it's caused by the condensation that is created due to hot/cold air mixing, and sitting in the air ducts, getting musty etc.
If you get it all the time when the air-con is off then maybe it's something else.

Its normal on most pumas, mine was quite stinky in the winter months, its not so bad now. Gonna get the whole ventilation system cleaned on the next service, hopefully should cure it.

Tried that, it just covers up the smell, doesn't cure it!

Hi Yep sounds like Sick car syndrome to me, I work in the family garage and my brother specialises in air con, we advise what I call an "air con bomb!" no don't worry it does'nt cause any damage just sterilizes the air con system, killing the nasty microbes that live on the condenser and stuff see the attached link for more info: http://home.btconnect.com/AUTOCLIMATE/html...lthsickcar.html

we dont use this product but two other similar ones

should n't be to expensive about £30 ish

hope this helps

PS it is recommended that you have your air con serviced every 2 years may not always need a re-gas but the systems do naturally loose gas over 2 to 3 years

When I first joined PP and got my Puma it was my first problem. I spent about £40 on the special aircon clensing sytem thingy's. What cured it was having Fords recharge the Aircon Gas,Cost about £80 as they cleaned the system as well. Its down to Bacteria in the system.

Fords (Yuk) are doing an air con "air fresh" for £29.95 - supposed to get rid of musty and/or bad smells and also any bacteria. smile.gif

You can buy a can of aircon freshner and spray it into the system yourself... dry.gif

Basically as per Hansie's link http://www.pumapeople.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=535

I find running the ventilation fan for the last 5 mins of the journey with the A/C off helps keep the system clean, it's only if you switch off the aircon at the end of the journey that the smell starts.

mine did this. but i got a can of air con cleaner and sprayed that in there (well my bf did) this kills all the bad stuff in there and gets rid of the smells. its abit strong in smell a few days after its done but it soon goes away and leaves you without that odd smell.
