is it essential to bleed the brakes in that order and with the battery disconnected? I bled mine today just wheel by wheel with everything still connected?

better to at least bleed the rears first, the reason to disconnect the battery is to rule out the possibility of the abs pump actuating and trapping air, if you get trapped air in the ABS pump then you need ford or someone with a specialist tool to connect to the pump that flicks it on and off very quickly to expel trapped air.

i personally think the chances of getting air in it are quite low even with the battery connected, but i still disconnect anyway

PS. if you are just changing the front calipers you only really need to bleed the front brakes, did i say in the guide to bleed all of them? think i said that just to cover myself lol

no i changed the whole system mate. drained it all and also drained the fluid because i changed the master cylinder.

the pedal is a little spongy but thats probs because the breaks need wearing in..

i may bleed them again in the order you said just to be sure.

yeah make sure you wait for any bubbles to stop coming through, i found sometimes it would seem like the bubbles stopped then suddenly more would appear, bleeding twice isnt a bad idea

bled them twice and the garage reckon they are spot on. so hopefully once the pads bed in it will be much better. probs not used to the new breaking point on the pedal...

Steve great guide but did your caliper bolt touch the brake disc as it looks really close in the picture .
I am doing a 280mm comversion and came across the same problem with mondeo bolts and was told to use washers to bring the caliper bolt further back.
I am going to run Team dynamics 15 inch et35 wheels so wasn't sure if the 300 mm disk would fit.

I'd also be interested to know . I've read that the calliper needs machining, but don't know where to do this?

Cheers

There's a couple of ridges on the top of the calipers which literally just need grinding flat to the calipers, very easy but under 15 inch wheels they sit literally 1mm away from the wheel, not much room for movement if used on track and the metal slightly expands hence why I went for 16 inch wheels.

Thanks for the reply guys - sounds like no problem at all to fit them under standard propellors then. I like to keep the OE look, and 15" tyres are cheap as chips also!

Looking good,

So simple to fit too, I have them on my track puma and no joking they stop almost as hard as my alcons on the frp, they are very strong, so strong in fact it feels like you get the back of the car lifting on some hard braking before corners at brands :-).
Did this on ours a few years back. Pretty easy and Mental braking now (no issue with front / rear bias - Perfect.

Have a set of near new FRP Alcons but they are for a 550bhp TVR :)

Original poster - what rims are those ST200's 16 or 17j?
