finished putting 1.7 in my car, but i get a lot of power from 2k onwards, but then it dies by 5k....anyone else think that the vct is kciking in?

no, its slows down in performance, i thaught the whole idea of vct in the pumas is that over 5k they go belisticish lol

erm... you will hardly feel any kick at all,its not like the honda vtec system

best way to descirbe vct is that it aids emissions and drivabillity, imo does not really improve performance, but gives good torque from low rpm

Sounds normal for the VCT system, it pushes the torque lower down the rev range.

The 'kick' (sic) that some claim to feel at 4-5000rpm is simply the increased breathing of the 16V head.

As Chris C says, you know when you've hit VTEC in an old school Type-R

hmm...also, nother issue, when you boot it around 2k its stuttering real bad, need to retake the clutch, or just rev it higher and change higher and its fine

i have my old 1.4 exhaust system on it, and it has no back box, just a middle box, think it could be that?

Doubt the exhaust would cause that, sounds like a fuelling or ignition problem?

Had the same problem.
Put the old plugs in, with a slightly smaller gap (1.1mm instead of 1.3), and it's fixed.

Sounds like a coilpack on the way out. So the proper way to fix it, is to buy a new coil pack. The cheap, quick fix is adjusting the plug gap.

initially before i had it running, i had to reattached a choped loom, and incorrect positioning meant no spark to the coilpack, so maybe its still not quite correct...i got a new loom coming friday anyway
