The first 1/4 mile my brake pedal is hard as heck. Then after that its fair to be honest. I am used to driving my Jaguar but I am also used to driving my wife's Ford Focus. and the brakes are not at all the same.

I have limited ability to look myself due to a spinal injury, but I can say there is no fluid leaking. I looked at the brakes (well front discs ) and they seem ok. The master cylinder looks clean, and the fluid is clean. I suspect its a air bubble and not bleed properly or that someone has put on after market pads for racing. The car will Stop but you really have to put your foot down hard at the beginning. I am only worried because my wife and kids are in the car and I don't want to have a crash. This is my top priority to check.

Anyone here know of any known problems which will cause this? The car is simple enough so it shouldn't be major. At the most a new master cylinder but I don't think its this problem. Thanks everyone.

hello
the Puma brakes are not overly servo assisted so do need pushing however from memory of my standard Puma (and this one to) the amount of pressure needed is conistent through the drive so your Puma sounds not right. Whilst my particular pads get more responsive when warm the effort to push the pedal is the like the same as when I started the drive.

I see in another post your Puma is an R reg.
There was only one recall on the Puma and that was for the brake master cylinder. Check this link out and then check your VIN number (but really it should have been done even if applicable).

You want the first listing (the other is for the FRP)

Thank you again. I checked and yes mine was recalled. However I know that it was changed but may need changing again. ??? I also heard about some vacume leak that even a tiny pin prick could cause it. Although I am certain as you are that this is not right and I am sure its not safe. Discs look good, Handbrake works great. after its warmed up it is great but still a harder press than I am used to. But at the start you kind of put your foot to the pedal and its rock hard. and pray. then its activated. Its still only half a travel but you don't stop quickly. I am going to have that checked out this week before any driving is done. As I said I don't drive a lot anyway and I could go on £20 of fuel on my Jag and it would last me over 3 months.... until my wife drives it. The only real reason I have this car is as a back up incase her Ford Focus Estate goes into the garage and she needs it for work or to drive the kids somewhere. Personally I will get in maybe once a month. So I have a lot of time to get things sorted.

I will keep you posted. PS how do you upload photos? you can see my car on this site as SOLD. just scroll down.. Its the only way I can show it atm.

As it is a new car to you why not change the brake fluid anyway as if it is an air lock that would shift it and then you get fluid you know how old it is.

I can tell its been fully serviced. IE plugs, oil, and coolant and brake fluid... I suspect it does need bleeding hence why I am not frantic about it. I am aware of the issue and being a manual I can always down shift to the garage anyway. Or at my friends bleed the brakes which is what I suspect and planned. I will keep you informed. And again Happy Kat. Thank you for your reply's.
