Is it just me or is this site getting quiet - I also frequent caravantalk (a guilty pleasure) and topics don't stay on page 1 for more than 15 minutes!

Anyway in an effort to get three posts with no replies in a row, was re-reading another historic Car article that had the FRP pitched against a red and gold (remember them) Lotus Elise - it didn't win but acquitted itself well and to be fair the Lotus was £5K more and not based on a Ford Fiesta Encore... or any other car for that matter.

I have that magazine, wasn't the Lotus a 111R or something?
My mate has a Elise and took me over to Castle Combe the other day in it.
I couldn't get out the bloody thing :roflmao: Next time he will have to take the roof off before I go in it.

Out at Keevil last year we were out in the same session and for about 8 laps or 16 miles the gap never changed between us. (Your not allowed to race, but as I came into a braking zone to a hair pin he was coming back past me) We couldn't believe how evenly matched the cars were considering how different they are in engine / drive layout.
We weren't hanging out either, lapping a few cars in the same session including a Porsche Boxster

GREAT FUN :)

Drat you Mutley - I'll never get that record now!!!

Yes I believe it was a 111. I've driven both as well (I say both, my son has a VX220, so near enough) and gotta say getting in and out is no joke. I much preferred the FRP for its ability to just get up and go and demist the front windscreen. The VX220 was too intimidating, especially when trying to see through the misted up front windscreen...

Tbf though it is easier to drive a fwd car fast but they are very capable cars, even when on paper nothing imidiately jumps out. I really like watching some of the onboard footage on youtube of people in standard pumas coming past all sorts of stuff on track, shows its not what you drive but how you drive it!

The lotus was a S1 type 49 with the 160 bhp upgrade. Am finding the S2 elise a different drive to the FRP but a very exciting drive just like the FRP.

I grew up on RWD Escorts with bigger engines in :)
Provided they were set up properly, I would much rather drive a RWD car fast than a front.

Sideways is much more fun, and controllable

got to agree, RWD more fun and much more controllable, front wheel drive on limit is very tricky as front or back can go and without a bit of rear brake application it can be very difficult to guess which end...I think their is skill in driving both needed, it may appear at first easier to go fast in FWD but its just a different skill espcially at the limit...
