Quite fancy a Z4, but currently very much undecided. I havea 306 GTi-6 to borrow for the meantime, so no rush.

Regarding the keys, I will have a look at what I have left. Jag X-/S-Type key is definately the best starting point. Will let you know when I have been through my stash!

Car is SOLD! To my mum, so it is still going to be about. Sparky the Ka isn't going to pass another MoT due to rot, mum has always liked my little Puma and it reminds her of the black '86 Capri Laser she ran from around 90-96.

I will still be using it for a little while, but at least it's future is now decided, and someone will get some benefit from all of the relatively new consumables!

That is a great placement, so quick and easy too :) makes changing car easier. You will have to share the name your Puma gets. :)
searching is fruitful | I'm a sponge not a mechanic | please do try that if stuck with a Puma problem whilst waiting for a reply | For the Puma fan this read 'The Inside Story Book' is very nice to own sometimes still seen for sale

I am thinking probably Zippy. To be fair the Ka belonged to my cousin before my mum, and it was her that named it. Think the black capri was called Betsy, so that is a possibility!

Such a shame about the Ka, it is/was a great car to drive, but when I looked at it the other day it was obvious that the rust was so bad that it was unlikely to pass another MoT. I just hope the Puma does better after the protection I gave it.

Even then, it will still be a bit special, even for a Black, as I will be leaving the front brakes, wheels & tyres, mirror lights, cruise control, posh sunvisors and rear interior lamp, plus of course the sound deadening and rust proofing.

How did you fit the rear interior lamp? Didn't think there was enough room between the headlining and the roof?

There is a bar across the roof, so long as you are just behind this bar, you should be fine. The bar / reinforcement runs across the top of the B pillars.

Drove the Puma again today, really enjoyed driving it, and giving it some stick, but I remain very pleased with my decision to change. I think that the Puma is a great car, and currently great value for money, but it is best in something approaching standard form.

If you want a 200PS car, then save the cash you would spend on modifying your Puma, and buy one. If you are particularly attached to your Puma, then based upon my experience, most importantly make sure it runs properly, replace all of the wear parts with new standard parts, change the cams for FRP spec, the master cylinder and servo from an early Puma, possibly ST170 front brakes (there are incidences of the Mk3 Mondeo calipers warping discs as the ST170 discs are really a bit thin for the Mondeo calipers), and if you must change the wheels, please, please stick to something as close as possible to standard spec, and no more than 16" diameter.

4-2-1 exhaust is fine, but the noise that it makes, while fun when you are in the mood, in day-to-day use detracts from the appeal of the car as even the Milltek is just too loud, especially on the motorway.

Anyhow, the car finally got the FRP tail pipe fitted;

As I said above, I gave it some real stick, and it definately still puts a smile on my face, but the smile now is no less than it did with the full Milltek, FRP inlet, FRP ECU, etc.

Looks awesome!!!!

which wheels do you have fitted? the 16" escort wheels?

how does it handle with the rear spacers on?

Thanks, wheels are the 7Jx16ET35 wheels from the accessories catalogue, very similar to the 6.5Jx16ET40's, except that these don't ruin the handling.

Rear spacers make little or no difference IMO, just there for aesthetics.

Where did you buy your soundproofing from? and how much did you use to do the whole car?

Given the shoddy soundproofing in my puma, is seems like a must to add more.

Hi, got mine from caraudiodirect.co.uk, bulk kit of second skin damplifier, I used around 2/3 of it. Cost around £110 back in September 09.

Clio was due a service so mum loaned me the Puma for a few days; driving position took a bit of getting used to, had a few fixes to do, disturbed steering column remote, refit rear view mirror, secure the handbrake handle, etc.

Gave the car a wash on Tuesday night, it has a touch more character than it did a year ago, but is still quite presentable. I think the rust proofing has done some good though as even the recurring bit on the o/s/r arch hasn't got much worse.

What did I like;
  • Steering feel
  • Engine (smoothness and power delivery)
  • Gear change
  • Styling

What I didn't like;
  • Lack of lateral support from the seat
  • Headroom and driving position
  • Low door opening
  • Rear visibility

Overall though I enjoyed having it back for a few days, but was still pleased to get the 197 back.

Nope, certainly not tall! Just the seat is a bit high, seems common in most Fords, more of an issue in the Puma due to the low roof line.

I had the pleasure of driving this round for a day while my FRP was getting the all important cambelt change done. What is the exact spec over standard then Will - just the FRP cams?

Couple of pics...

Cheers Paul, really just the cams, though it has a TAPE ECU, albeit with standard map, ST170 discs & calipers, eibach springs.
