Missed the film when it came out, but got it on Dvd, using vouchers from my birthday.

Burt Monro buys a brand new Indian motorcycle in 1920's New Zealand, does all his own work modifying it, then takes it to Bonnevile salt flats, and sets a new world speed record - despite not pre-rregistering.

This film was 25 years in the making, the producer was a Munro fan, but never found the time to put this film about a truly remarkable man onto film.

Antony Hopkins plays Monro to perfection, a thoroughly enjoyable film, to watch again and again.

Saw this a while ago when it came out on DVD and it is a wonderful film. The best one I have seen for quite some time really.

I'm not sure how much of the story has been glammed up for hollywood, but have heard it's pretty similar to actual events.

Can't believe how fast he went with something which was essentially built in his shed at home.

Often wonder why this record has never been broken yet. It would be easy for someone like Harely Davidson to throw a few million pounds at their development department and smash it. Perhaps it was such an achievement at the time and with it being a home built special people have thought it would be wrong to beat it using modern technology and buckets of cash.

Would recommend this film to anyone as it doesn't concentrate too heavily on the bike itself, rather the tale of hiim getting there and being allowed to participate.

Reminds me of "No Limit" with George Formby - superbly silly film about a a wigan chimney sweep who sets out to win the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy on a home built Shuttleworth Snap biggrin.gif

The Record set was for Motorcycles under 1000cc Paul.
Not sure if it still stands today.

As far as I know it still stands today.

I think the full thing is something like air cooled engines under 1000cc with streamiler fairing.

I have read that the 750cc and 250cc records are both faster than the 1000cc one set by burt.

Fantastic film! Burt Munroe was a definate one off - a true legend! Everyone should see it, even if it's just the once! Even this official trailer doesn't do the story justice!
