Beam is looking a bit rusty.
Hopefully the Alcons will be OK.

Fair bit more done on this car. unfortunately the front end hadas many cans of worms as the back.. :head:

Both front control arms had all bushes and ball joints in a hell of a state... someone had blasted the front bolt on so hard it had wrecked the bolt and bush too..

Posted Image

Posted Image

Had to painstakingly drill out all the ball joint rivets..

Posted Image

Clean them up a bit and then replace all parts..

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Then had a look at the brakes...

As we know the FRP uses 28mm discs.. these were 22 lol

Posted Image

I'll come back to that one another day...

then over to the knuckle with 3 studs in it

Posted Image

had to take this apart... fit a new bearing, new ABS ring and fitted 4 nice new studs to the drive flange after a good cleanup..

Unfortunately one of the arms has had something pressed through it which has made the rear socket too big for the OE bush, so i'm going to see if I can get the bush welded in or get another arm fabricated.. Crazy!

The Offside shafts don't appear to have any boot straps at all, or much grease in there...(it's all spun out and coated the car!)

Posted Image

Someones done a great mod to the airbox too... :o

Gosh Chris quite shocked but glad you are able to fettle and sort these issues.
Good job to re use the ball joints, I did mine as new ones from Ford did not fit the bolt holes did not line up at all with the wishbone.

I had two spare ford ball joints in my stash of used parts..figured they'd be better than quinton hazel ones.. the ones on there were wrecked

The broken stud was a result of fitting a crap quality security nut..that was probably then over tightened with an impact gun (like every other nut on the car) which then ruined the nut.. someone then had to drill out the nut and stud and break it..

Well...330 update!..

Spent HOURS drilling bolts and bleed screws out the front calipers as I think they had never been serviced before other than a seal kit change..lol

:head: :head: :head: :head: :head: :head: :head: :head: :head:

Had to drill off the front of the cap head as it was soo fused it just rounded off straight away... I presumed of course the front half of the caliper would then slide past the bolt so I could then separate the two halfs..wrong!.. they bolt was so utterly fused/corrosded in the front half too I had to drill out the whole bolt without damaging any threads... no mean feat

made new templates to drill out the threaded lower part of the bolts...

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

When I finally got the calipers separated I then found the bleed screws were fused too.. :comp: :comp: one of those snapped in half too... on the drilling table again.. :head:

Then to remove the pad retaining rails (which had never been off before).. and start scraping at the powdery corrosion

Posted Image

Eventually.. the calipers are looking a viable product again!..

I thought i'd then have a quick look at the drive shaft i'd taken off earlier (picture above)...

put some grease in the boot and a new strap on...

looked at the tripod bearing side and uncovered the worst bodge ever!

Previous owner had clearly broken the shaft at the end and instead of sourcing a new one someone has welded the tripod bearing to the end of the broken shaft...

eek!

Posted Image

Posted Image

new drive shaft on order.. :nono:

The intermediate bearing also needs doing and the CV end on the NS too.. crikey me..

More to follow...

Havn't even got the engine out yet..lol :woot2:

You had a lot of work to do there. Expected to see it a lot worse under the rails.

Engines out now and being cleaned down... This one is great example of just why these need removing from the car to get to the bottom of a few issues...

Both cam seals leaking -- Bottom crank seal leaking -- usual cam cover leaking and the inlet is saturated in oil as they all are to varying degrees ..this one is particularly bad, the airbox not being used has made this worse..

this next one looks a right mess, but to be honest most are a similar story after this many years

It looks worse than normal because driveshaft boots have opened and splattered green grease everywhere... what a mess. :puke:/>

330 is pretty much finished now... :woot2:

all back in and tested... installed a new airbox and pipe etc and a Bosch coil pack and it sounds soooooo sweet

Front toe geometry corrected...

Just needs some new boots now for the icing on the cake :)

What a big job that was..

Are you using it to recreate the rubbery part on inlet gasket? Or can the replacement rubbers for 1.4 and 1.6 engines be used in that spacer?
