Ganache Won't Set!

Bring double cream to the boil, remove from heat, add chocolate and stir until melted. Allow to cool then beat until thickened. It should become stiff enough to stay on top of a cake.
It has eventually after about 20 minutes of beating just about got there, but I've had to put it in the fridge to make sure it doesn't slide straight off again
I'll get a pic of the finished article

Before when I've done a ganache the recipes have said to chill in the fridge, this one advised against as the glossy look is lost. when it went in the fridge it set perfectly. Dull, but firm
