I have searched and searched on here (not that the search is up to much - it doesn't respect quotes, nor +, nor AND), but I can't find any mention of how much oil a 1.7 needs for a change?

Does anyone know, I really want to get it done this weekend.

Thanks in advance.

Nor does it accept three-letter words - making a search on anything to do with oil somewhat tricky.

buy the Haynes manual for the Fiesta that is the closest match to the Puma.
searching is fruitful | I'm a sponge not a mechanic | please do try that if stuck with a Puma problem whilst waiting for a reply | For the Puma fan this read 'The Inside Story Book' is very nice to own sometimes still seen for sale

Or have a look on Google, plenty of sites that tell you what to do, and free!

I poured in 4,5 liters, and it's exactly on the max mark on the dipstick.

Should be changed every 10K miles (or annually). I do mine myself between 8k and 10K. (It's had 4 changes in 36k miles so average is 9K miles). And I also use a fully synthetic rather than the 'standard' semi-synth but that's just me wanting the best and as I service it myself using all genuine Ford parts what I save on the labour I can spend on better oil.

Mine was changed roughly after that amount... but the dude that did it said i hardly had any left... errrr.... he also said there were no signs of leaks or anything. Generally i dont rag the car so maybe mine just burns it quicker.

I have poured in Duckhams 5W/30.

The funny thing about it is that it's green! Makes it easier to read the dipstick when the oil is fresh.

It complies with all the Ford specs, and it also says it on the bottle: "Approved for all modern Ford engines". Unfortunately, it's 'only' ACEA-04 A1/B1 spec, instead of the better A3/B3 or the synthetic A5/B5. But to be honest, there's not much difference between those 2 specs, and the standard Ford oil you get over the counter is also A1/B1.

I'll change it ever 9 months, which was 5k - 6k miles this time. smile.gif

I burn a litre or so every 5000 miles, which regular VCT action (i love it!), but ALWAYS a proper warming-up of atleast 10 miles/ 10-15 minutes. Still pondering wether or not i'm going to mod an oil temp sensor in the sump, would make it a lot easier and i'd have something to do rolleyes.gif

Better keep a close eye on the oil level then. If your car really does burn a lot don't let it get too low.

isnt fully synthetic oil bad for the liners? thought id heard someone of knowledge say that a while back??

idiots guide (one that i can follow!!) to changing oil

13mm spanner on sump nut (nut on bottom of engine facing rear of car) - unscrew

let oil (cool but not cold) drain into tub (i cut off the side of an old oil tub - use screw cap as funnel to pour into old tub)

dont drop sump nut into oil!!!

when drained replace sump nut with new one (they round 2 easily to keep using) & a new washer (aero style with rubber bit inside metal are best & reuseable)

undo oil filter by hand or smack a screwdriver through it & use to turn it

rub new oil onto new filter rubber seal, screw on new filter, hand tight, check after 100 miles, only hand tight

pour 4.5ish litres of fresh oil in, leave 5mins & check dipstick (thing with yellow end, not the driver!!!) (on level ground)

useful extras - rags, wd40 or clutch/brake/carb cleaner for spilt oil
