Hi All

Just bought a 1.7 on an 02 plate, higher mileage (70K) than I wanted but not a bad deal, the body is perfect, brand new tyres all round and the alloys are pristine, not a mark on them!

Anything I should look out for? alredy picked up on the key remotes and the Cam belt issues.

Looking forward to collecting it next week, trading up from my KA2 which i had for 9 years and never let me down.

Luxury pack (whatever that is?) 6 CD changer. FSH. I only go to work and back so the mileage is not much of a problem (42K in the KA in 9 years!)

Thanks in advance.

MJJ

Sounds like a good buy. Nothing really to watch out for as they're solid wee cars. As you said - just make sure your cambelts ok, and keep an eye on the oil level - they don't like running dry. Anything that bugs or confuses you, just post - we're a friendly bunch smile.gif

Above all, get used to that grin you'll have on your face whenever you drive your new car good.gif

Welcome to PP

Darren

(That was a welcome post without the word Loonie in it - gotta be a first for me! hang on... doh! wacko.gif )

Welcome to Pumapeople. biggrin.gif

As has been said, keep an eye on the dipstick - some higher mileage 1.7s tend to burn a bit of oil.

I think the Lux pack added extras such as the heated windscreen and door mirrors. I can't remember exactly what else it included.

(the beauty of mathematics)

Hi and welcome to PP.

One word of warning ..... don't lift your boot fully when it's raining (or been raining). Lift slowly to let the water drain off or it will all end up in your boot laugh.gif

this is a good read and also cover options and packs. The lux pack contents changed during production.

searching is fruitful | I'm a sponge not a mechanic | please do try that if stuck with a Puma problem whilst waiting for a reply | For the Puma fan this read 'The Inside Story Book' is very nice to own sometimes still seen for sale

Nice one! I just moved up from a KA to a 1.7 Puma in October and loving it! I'm sure you will too. The KA's a fun car but you'll certainly get less seasick in the Puma!

Thanks for all the messages folks! One question, at what mileage should the Cam belt be/have been changed?

Thanks

OK, picked the car up on Saturday and very pleased with it so far. As mentioned, it has high miles but is very tight and clean.
Just waiting for my private reg to go on, should be Wednesday. Can't find out from paperwork if Cam belt has been done so will have to do it just in case. Might ring previous owner.

All keys are present and at the moment the remote works fine (should the sidelights flash or something when locking etc?) As noted on this site the CD has a CD stuck which dealer missed which is being extracted when the number plates are being fitted.

I'm only used to a rev counter on my wife's diesel Mazda, Puma read about just over 3K at 70 mph, is that about right?

Interior is unmarked, alloys are pristine and a new set of boots. One light scratch to the rear bumper, otherwise pretty damn good! Colour: Green (I know some people hate it but looks good to me, KA was green also)

Overall chuffed to mintballs and thank god for the Quickclear front screen this morning!

5th gear is reportedly 19.6mph/1000rpm (real speed, so not speedo, which over-reads 5-10%). Basically what you're seeing is about right.

One press on the remote key locks the doors and (I think) activates the alarm. Two presses does the same but activates the deadlocks as well, and gives you a couple of flashes on the indicators (no beeping though). (If the alarm doesn't activate on one press then it definitely does on two.)
