Help,

My once beautiful half-leather stearing wheel is looking pooe

The shiny leather coating is starting to lift, leaving a sticky matt substance underneath it.

Any ideas?

She is only 3 years old with 28k on the clock - how long is a stearing wheel supposed to last? :?

mine is a w reg (4 or 5 years old) i think, got 50,000 on clock, not sure how long they last but again i suppose it depends on quite a few factors, I bet you can replace it but dont know how much....is it worth it? I am not bothering as i am looking to change it (puma) in about 12 months cool2.gif

bought ours 18 months ago with 26k miles on the clock and a sticky s/wheel. Sent it right back to Ford dearler (where we bought it) and argued our way into a replacement s/wheel.

After they tried us with a blue Fiesta s/wheel instead of black Puma we eventually got a new one fitted under warranty.

I have heard others say they argued enough with Ford that Ford agreed to pay half of parts and fitting cost as it is indeed unacceptable that a s/wheel should become so damanged from such limited and careful use.

Remember, stay calm, controlled, and well within your rights and don't take any poo.

Mines worn on the right hand side.

Do you wear a ring? as this can cause it to wear quicker.

Found that cleaning it with white spirits or turps to get rid of the stickiness and then polishing it, (I used armour all),worked for my wheel.I have had to do this twice now but it certainly a cheaper option.

On my Zetec-S last year i got Ford to change it under warranty goodwill.
The reciept for the cost of the steering wheel is £205, this price does not include the airbag which is swopped for your original one.
Labour was 30 mins and that was £245 in total ford paid the whole lot. biggrin.gif cool2.gif
