Righty ho everyone, im putting together a meet for the southwest, (My first one, so be kind!), as apparently there hasn't been one for a few years!.

Start point: Rownhams Services on the M27 Westbound. 12 midday on sunday the 7th of October.

Doing an old route here. From ^here^ along the B3078 until Cranborne and then up the B3081 towards Shaftesbury.

Drove the route yesterday and it's a good one! 40ish miles in total and I counted NO real traffic lights to contend with! biggrin.gif Just have to hope the roads are fairly quiet. There will be one, maybe two places to stop on the route for pictures etc but it depends on numbers on the day. There is an optional route that goes by the 'Rufus stone' nice little area but we will see about this on the day.
The main en-route point is an area called 'Ashley Walk'. It's basically a reasonably sized gravel car park but with nice views and it should be fairly quiet so we will stop here.
The entire New Forest area is 40mph due to horses, cows etc roaming free so watch out for animals. Because of this the first half of the drive is very leisurely while the second half (after Cranborne) is pretty quick, nice straight roads and good flowing corners.

Have to hope the weathers nice now!

Note:
Tollard Royal on the route is very narrow and it has a 20mph speed limit, which will need to be kept to as it's often patrolled!.

Finish point and meal: Will be Zig Zag hill and Compton Abbas Airfield.

Compton will not take cards/cheques for anything under a tenner! So everyone must have cash!
Food is anything from about a fiver to 8-9 quid. (proper meals, and subject to change)
Had thought about having the meal somewhere a bit cheaper, but it's more of a drive on top of what we'll have already done, plus the airfields 5 mins up the road from the hill and it has good food.
Zig Zag hill for those who don't know is a very windy, technical road going up the side of a steep hill, one of those roads that you see in the Alps!
A very good area for taking pics too, plenty of good views to be had, near to the airfield at the end of the route.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to PM me!. My phone number will be given out to those who are coming nearer the meet date in case of last minute problems.

A site for Rownhams services: http://www.motorwayservices.info/area.php?area=115
Comptons website: http://www.abbasair.com/ Does need some updating, but it's there!

As I say it's my first time, so be kind! and above all relax and have fun, no time limits will be imposed, apart from the meet time!

I kept this till october so all the main things like Rallyday and FF could go on past, the main show season's over by this time I think, so that was the reason, but don't worry, if it goes well there'll be more!. smile.gif

Thanks Zip It, will take you up on that offer!. Hope you get to come too, hopefully be a fun day!

Not been well recently so not been able to do the drive unfortunatly, problems with my eye's as well as back and neck issues, which I still have, so will be doing it soon.

Hoping to get a few south-southwest members involved, anyone?

They've recently (2-3 weeks ago) resurfaced the road, and it's actually pretty good, but they've missed a few bits!.
The hill itself isn't bad, watch in a few places as the road surface isn't to grippy!

I can imagine the Type-R was fantastic up there, the Puma's very good, does understeer a bit too easily though, but im sure most people will choose to just amble on round, rather than pretend to be Micheal Schumacher!

Oooh zig zag hill, came down with a caravan on the back of the car once.
Lots of screaming from the passenger seat about your never going to make it!

Well I did! without stopping. biggrin.gif

I'm a possible, could join at Shaftsbury. Straight down the A350 for me.

What sort of time would you be there?

Good job with the caravan! lol! Theres usually a bit of screaming etc from my passenger seat when im barrelling down into that first turn!

So you'd just be there for the mess about on the hill and the meal yep? I'd like to see how an FRP goes on there. Thinking about stopping in that large layby on the top, hopefully it'll be empty, usually is.

Not sure about the time to be honest, if we meet at 12, we probably won't leave until gone half past, so I expect around 2ish, but obviously that depends on size of the convoy, traffic etc. I'll let you know when i've driven it.

I will put it on the calender. happy.gif

I know the road from Shaftsbury to Poole is fantastic in a Puma.
I over took a motor bike in my first 1.7 going down there, once.
The roads were a bit wet and he was a bit pissed off we me for overtaking him.

About 6 miles later, when I caught some traffic up he over took me again. rolleyes.gif

Yeah, they don't tend to like it when you keep up with them either, can't say i've ever overtaken one though lol!! It's good fun though, when a superbike goes flying past you on the straights but your really on him in the corners, like he looks in his mirrors an all he can see is a snarling Puma.

I don't usually travel to Poole, I usually go the other way at Blandford and go to Weymouth. Good roads there as well that may be worthy of a meet!.
