Putting some 3-points in #245, and my question is.......

Where do tou put the eye bolts in the centre of the car?

Normally on a rally car we just drill the transmission tunnel and weld plate on the outside and screw them in. I dont really want to drill the tunnel, so has anyone fixed them elsewhere?

On the bolt that holds the seat belt buckle? or to fit in the small space around here how about bolting in some 4mm sheel plate drilled for the harrness.

Other fixing points are easy.....

Chris,

A few of us run Scroth (supplied by Safety Devices) three point harness, which use an adaptor to mount off the rear passenger seat belt plug attachment point.

This seems to work well.

What about the mounting point on your left (driver's seat) or right? (passenger seat)

Cheers

Two locations I have seen used, either sandwiched inbetween the pretensioner and it's mount plate, or bolted to either one of the pair of seat mount bolts beside the transmission tunnel.

Disclaimer - As with all safety critical things, these are only suggestions and any final decision should rest with you, not on any advice offered.

Ta for that, didn't really want to go drilling the shell, think the rails are the best bet. And understand your disclaimer.

Think when I make some new rails up I'll weld in an eye bolt as well.

Thanks cool2.gif

Are aircraft-style release mechanisms road legal?

The law states that the belt must be "E" marked... std belts are, most rally style belts are not ('FIA' approval is not the same as European approval - even though FIA is probably better...).

To remain legal you have to retain the std belts... though the insurance compny might be inetretsted to know you have installed (and probably using) non E marked belts...

Yes and no.

They will be because the original belts will be left in. According to the MOT they are not, although I have never had a rally car fail and MOT for aircraft type belts.

If you have a look in the online blue (blur) book on the MSA's website it isn't excatly explicit. Will have a look this eve, and post up the definative answer for your info. Think it's www.msa.org.uk
