You may end up with similar problem to that that I had when I had 205s on the std puma rims.

The 195 rim works best with 195 tyres. Changing the tread width alters the dynamics of the tyre wall. Nearly ended up in a ditch cos of this.

Reducing in size would also cause similar effects when cornering hard...

My wheels are 17" and 7" wide running on 205/40/17 and have had no problems with tyre performance on cornering. Cant comment on the 205/45/17 tho' as the tyre wall will be slightly increased.

I think that the FRP wheels are 7" wide, if they are 6.5" then 205/40/17's will fit no problem.

Also worth looking at different tyre manufacturers as there tyre wall design differs which will help eliminate the tyre rubbing that your getting biggrin.gif

FRP wheels are 7" wide. I'm 95% sure 205's will fit no problems.

I can understand that fitting 205's on an FRP will affect handling but coolerking is running FRP wheels with the standard puma suspension geometry.

Agree entirely with ya Matt, fitting one size either up or down should not be a problem, it wiil change the handling characteristics, sometimes dramatically.

Its nothing to do with the geometry, its basic structural integrity of the tyre wall.

Im not saying this cos of bar room chat, i've had it happen, as Jill was all to aware, as she saw it occur.

All im saying is, be aware that under adventurous driving conditions, a tyre that is either over or undersize may have unpredictable handling characteristics

205/40/17 is a std manufacturer fit on a 7" rim so there will be no problems you will see most if not all std puma's running 17's with the same size smile.gif

Agreed that IF your accustomed to driving with the 215/45/17 tyres the down sizing to 205/40/17 will have an effect on the ride quality and handling.
As for the safety of the tyre on the rim, after market alloys that are 17" with a 7" width are fitted with 205/40/17 tyres. So IF the FRP wheels are 7" wide this tyre size will be OK.

For a definitive answer ask a qualified tyre fitter that you trust. They will be able to advise you, after all if there is a problem it would be them that you would go back too.
