Introduction.

Join in with this first Pumapeople meet to the location of many EVO magazine road tests over the years, the famous 'EVO Triangle'. smile.gif Made up of many exciting, twisting moorland roads, the triangle is formed from of sections of the A5, A543, and B4501. This meet will include the Triangle, as well as some of the surrounding roads in this dramatic part of the North Wales countryside. biggrin.gif The route we will take will not only include some great driving roads, but also the many excellent photographic locations which EVO have made good use of in previous issues. biggrin.gif

I'll go through the arrangements of the meet day-by-day with with guidence over where and when we will be meeting, and what we are planning to get up to. biggrin.gif

Friday June 6th.

Those wishing to stay over the weekend will meet at the Ty Mawr Holiday Park during Friday afternoon / evening.

Saturday June 7th.

The main part of the meet will take place during Saturday.

We will be all meeting at 09.30am in Betws-y-coed Station Car Park. The Station has a car park with 42 spaces and an open area for coach parking. wink.gif

I would advise those meeting at this point to please be aware that due to tourist traffic on the day, it might prove not be possible to all gather at this location. Should this be the case I would ask you to contact me via my mobile (number is shown at the start of this thread) and we will arrange another nearby meeting point. smile.gif

After meeting up, we will split into smaller groups of 3 or 4 Pumas and then go and enjoy the great roads and superb locations for photo's etc. biggrin.gif By seperating into smaller groups it will allow us to experiance the roads both safely and at an appropriate speed, and also cause minimum disruption to other road users, etc.

I will not be providing route maps on the day for this event, but I will be posting details of recomended roads (including map links, road names, nearby towns, etc.) in the area for you to enjoy in the run up to the meet. Please print off these details from this thread and bring them with you to the meet. I will bring some spare copies of these and give them to the sub-group 'leaders' should anyone have forgotten their own. smile.gif

After our morning drive, we will then regroup at approximately 2pm at The Sportsman's Arms to have lunch. smile.gif

Following our meal, we can take group photo's, etc at a nearby location. We will then continue to in our seperate groups to drive the local roads, before gathering back at the Sportsman's Arms at 5pm for final pictures and post-meet drinks. smile.gif

At this point, those staying overnight will return back to Ty Mawr Holiday Park, where we will enjoy Saturday evening out. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Sunday, June 8th.

Those staying at the Ty Mawr Holiday Park will leave to return home during the course of the morning, or stay for a further night and leave on Monday.

*** North Wales Police are very active in this area and make use of marked and unmarked Patrol Cars / Bikes, Safety Camera Vans, and Helicopters to monitor speeding motorists. Please drive responsibly during this event and respect other road users. ***

woot2.gif w00t.gif

We went to that area as a group some years ago and I was only a passenger (my FRP was off the road) so would love to go again. But any chance of maybe booking a stopover as I personally wouldn't be keen to drive there, drive around and then drive back safely in one day...

I mean, just look at that road cool.gif

I'm sure some of the 'oldies' will post the pictures from May 2003 - happy memories of when PP FRPs stayed over at the Tyn-y-coed

I spoke to a couple of FRP owners about that 2003 event at the Classic Car Show last year and have been mulling it over in my head since then. smile.gif As Colin says, my prefered option is to make it a weekend. Meet up Saturday morning, drive around, stay overnight, then more driving on the Sunday, then end the meet just after lunch. biggrin.gif

I'll go up myself and do a recce in a few weeks time if this idea looks a go-er. wink.gif Hopefully by doing the meet in June the weather should be resonable. wink.gif

Im VERY interested in this Chris. This is one of the sets of roads I wanted to go to this year so why not do it as a meet!
I have no problem doing it all in one day but a weekend sounds great.

... and indeed you are right Rick. biggrin.gif I'll change it in a mo. biggrin.gif

That's very the much the plan Colin. smile.gif I'm thinking about the meet to have the freedom for people to drive around the choosen routes (and beyond if desired) at their own pace and be able to stop for pictures, etc. in a similar way to we did at the Central London Meets I organised a few years back. wink.gif

We can all gather together for group shots, meals, etc, but when we drive the routes, this can be done in smaller groups of four to five Puma's maybe. smile.gif This would allow for a less pressurised feel to the meet and also draw less attention from the local Police than if we drove round in a huge snake.

Obviously I would look to supply those attending with Route Direction Sheets and Maps as I have done with my previous meets. biggrin.gif

CHRIS!!! This could very well be the 'Ultimate' meet, as I daydream about 'EVO' drives all the time. This is what we were planing to do in November, but due to the weather we called it off.

If I have the cash at the time, I am there!!!!! biggrin.gif ja_cool.gif ja_cool.gif ja_cool.gif

would love to come to this one. I think I am free that weekend and if it stays that way, I'll be there, but on two wheels (unless the weather forecast is really horrible of course laugh.gif).

Only been in that sort of area once before but loved it. Might have to include a stop over too as it's a little way from me, although the last time was done in one day. Was a bit sore by th end of it though laugh.gif

We stayed here when we did this in May 2003. Ideally the triangle is done on a weekday, as there is more traffic on the weekends. It's worth stopping at the Sportsman's Arms. Its the highest pub in Wales and did good food when we visited them - its marked on the map.

I think to allow the maximum number of PP to be able to attend this meet, then it does have to be over a weekend. I understand that the area is very popular with the bikers and other car clubs, so by organising the event to allow for everyone to be in smaller groups, then it will allow flexibility to lessen any delay / distruption if the traffic is busy. smile.gif Of course, if the meet is a success, then are is no reason why we can't hold another one during a weekday later on during the year biggrin.gif

Also, to address Paul's point, I wouldn't have an issue if he (or indeed anyone else) wanted to bring a bike. biggrin.gif These roads are ideal for bikes. biggrin.gif

As far as route goes. I thinking of coming up with a series of 'loops' that take in not only the Triangle, but many of the other great roads in the area, certainly in the spirit of those that Ed describes. biggrin.gif
